Upcoming Races:

None.  For the next 2 months, I plan on slow heart - long run training to build by aerobic base.  January will be the start of my season, and I will probably kick it off with the NYRR 10 Miler in Central Park....brrrrrrrrh!

GOALS FOR 2006

To strive relentlessly in doing my best.

To run faster.

To lower my heart rate.

To be more flexible.

To be consistent in my training.

To run less races.

To break the 4 hour barrier in the NYC Marathon.

My 7-best non-marathon performances

(not necessarily in pace order):

7th: Continental Airlines 5th Avenue Race - 08/14/2004.

I ran 6:36, and while I did this on a regular basis as a youngling, for 39 yrs old it was quite an accomplishment.

6th - The Westchester Half Marathon - 06/24/1990.

My 1hr 48min 59sec time was not only my best half marathon ever, but it was after a 4 year hiatus, and during a trying period in my life. My friend, Gerry Murphy had run it with me with a time of 1:45:01, and we both came in the top 500 in a field of nearly 2500 runners, on this, a 93 degree day.

5th-Brooklyn Half Marathon- March 19, 2005.

I broke the sub 2 hour mark not having realized that a week earlier I had also broke somethinig else...my left tibia..ouch. Hey, at least I did not get lost on the subway and miss this race, like the way i did 19 years earlier!

4th: JFK Airport Runway - May 20, 1984.

First time to trophy in my fastest ever 10K run. 41:17 (6:39 pace). I came in 3rd in my age group, and I finished 32nd overall from a field of 326 runners.  Everyone was there, parents, and even my dog, Tandra.

3rd: Long Beach Trophy 10 Miler -05/27/1984.

I smoked. 1 hour 6 minutes 22 seconds.  With a pace of 6:38, not only did I come in 5th place in my division, I came in 110th overall from a field of 1254, AND it is still is the best long distance performance I have ever had.

2nd: The Strohs 5K Liberty Run - 05/25/2005.

This was the fastest race I ever ran.  18:43 for a 3.1 mile race, which gave me a 6:01 pace. Oh, so close, no?  It was good enough for a 3rd place finish. It would have even been good enough for a 14th place finish in the Men's Open Category, and after the 1st mile, I was in 3rd place overall.

1st: The JFK Airport Runway -5 Miler- 06/18/85.
*I won my age division.
*I came in 5th place overall, behind four Men's Open (20-29)runners.
*I ran my first mile in 5:12, and had the headwind and lack of water not caught up to me, this would have been my sub 6 minute per mile pace race.
All in all, it was a race for the ages....

It's either I will or I wont."
